Hello 217!
We have been working so hard to get ready for the ISAT. Due to the snow we are expecting tomorrow, the test has been postponed. We will begin on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 through Friday. Please use this extra time to practice, practice, practice! The students should have their basic facts and the vocabulary terms ready to go on Wednesday!

It has been a pleasure teaching these kids for 100 days!
Reminder: The ISAT begins Tuesday, March 5 through March 8, 2013.

Our photocopier works again! The students have received homework for tonight but were told to only do PW 89 on Lesson 17.5 because we have not covered Lesson 17.6. We are moving VERY fast in math and I am glad they are all keeping up with the work.
They have also received the 3D shape nets to create their projects. They will need:
- 1 clothes hanger – string – scissors – glue – tape – coloring supplies
The students need to color the shapes and then cut them out to create the 3D shape with the net. They will attach the figure to a string and attach the string to a clothes hanger. Each shape must be labeled with the appropriate name. I will give points for neatness, coloring, labeling, and overall effort put into the project. I understand that it is difficult to bring them on the bus but please do your best so that they don’t get wrinkled and I can hang them up in our classroom.
Good luck!

This week we are doing a science experiment and we were able to go to the lab on Friday. Therefore, the science homework has been changed for Friday.
Today we took the MAP test and therefore were not able to get to the math lesson about weights. The students will not have math homework tonight because I did not teach the material.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions!

I’m sure your children have told you all about the Ringling Bros. Boss Clown debate that was held at Disney on 10/24. The kids had a blast! You can watch the debate on the Ringling website at www.ringling.com. Our school was also featured on ABC 7 News. Click here for the article and video.
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey have provided free tickets to the November 15, 2012 show to all third and fourth graders. They are also paying for the transportation. All children will be required to bring a field trip slip to attend this free field trip. It should be a lot of fun!
This upcoming Wednesday, 10/31, we are invited to attend the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival at the Music Box Theatre. We are watching Tales with Tails. The trip costs $6. Please send the money by Monday so that I know how many students are attending.

Hello 217!
Can you believe it’s almost November? I’d like to make sure we are all on the same page and that you’re aware of what we’re studying in Room 217.
Math: Even though we have finished rounding I hope that the students continue to practice the concept because it’s an essential part of third grade. They are using rounding when estimating addition and subtraction problems of up to four digits. We begin our subtraction chapter today. In the past, this has been a very difficult chapter because of silly mistakes. I hope this year my class is careful and successful with subtraction!
Science: We are finishing our rock chapter and moving into landforms. We’ll look at the different features of our world and what causes them to be that way.
Social Studies: Disney is very lucky to have The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey visit Disney for their Boss Clown debate. We are one of four schools in the country that gets to experience this wonderful event. Students must sign a permission slip because there will be cameras and we need parent permission for students to be in the audience.
Reading: It’s time for our first theme test! After every four lessons in Storytown the students have a theme test that covers all of the material they have learned. This test will cover all of the spelling patterns, vocabulary words, grammar concepts, and focus skills we’ve been studying. The test will take three periods because it is broken into three different sections. We will begin testing on Thursday, October 25, 2012. I will send a study guide home that the students will be working on at school. The best tools for studying are the weekly reading tests. I have graded and returned every test.
If you have any questions/concerns, please email me!
Best,
Ms.Villeda
