Look at Our Monsters!

In honor of Earth Day on April 22nd we had a guest speaker talk to us about the importance of taking care of our planet. We got to make these super cool garden monsters. The students planted grass in a mesh material and some students left them at school so we could watch them grow.

Next week we will be planting trees outside of our school. My friend and I won a grant to purchase these materials and I’m very excited for this project!

Spring Break

I just wanted to let parents know that the students were not assigned homework during spring break. I hope they enjoy this much needed break! However, Disney is having a Young Authors competition in the school. The students can start thinking about a story or series of poems they would like to write. We will be working on these when we get back to school.

I am also very excited about our upcoming field trip to Lincoln Park Zoo on Thursday, April 12th! We have a lot of parent volunteers and I am excited to have more of the 217 family join us.

Much Needed Updates

Hello!

Can you believe this wonderful weather? I am not a fan of winter and therefore I am extra excited about the warm temperatures.

The ISAT is over! We did it, 217! After months of hard work, we took the test and I bet we rocked it. That does not mean that school is over. There are three things necessary to pass 3rd grade and one of them is to receive at least a C in reading and math for the year. There is still a lot to learn!

One of the fun activities we did this past week was a team building exercise with marshmallows and spaghetti. This exercise is done with people all over the world, including CEOs of Fortune 50 companies. I learned a lot as I watched my students try to build the tallest tower they could with their team. Let’s see what happened! I will update tomorrow with pictures and the winners.

…relax!

We have done so much preparation that it is important to take a deep breath and feel confident that we are ready to ROCK the ISAT tomorrow.

Please make sure your child:

 gets a good night’s sleep,
 eats a healthy breakfast,
 brings a chapter book to school,
 is ready to ROCK!
